Having become a Private Investigator as a tax dodge Pete Amsterdam unwillingly finds himself on a case that will overturn his whole life.

It was his accountant's idea of a tax dodge: write off the work he was having done to his house as a new office; get a gun; get a reputation as a PI who never solves a case; do nothing for a couple of years and save tens of thousands of dollars. And for two and a half years it worked until one day PI Pete Amsterdam is approached by a 'blonde with a problem'.
